Preparing the Greenhouse

A very important winter job is to thoroughly clean the greenhouses with disinfectant. This reduces the risk of bacterial and fungal infections for those precious seedlings which will be nurtured here from February onwards.

We prefer Citrox (a powerful organic citrus extract) to the traditionally used chemical-based Jeyes fluid, as it can be used safely around the tender plants which spend the winter indoors. An added bonus: it smells much better!

All hard greenhouse surfaces are scrubbed using the recommended dilution of 50 ml per litre of water. Pots, seed trays and small tools cane be soaked in the same dilution for at least 10 min.

We also clean the propagation bench in the same way and replace the sand.
